Jen & Bob Caretta Teardrop Camper – Retirement

Our retirement  with a Caretta teardrop camper.

November 2018 we went for a drive, 48000 kms later this is our story.

It started  with our neighbor giving me tickets to Andre Rieu in Perth, we live on the Gold Coast. It was a gift for my 68th birthday.

We left home with a tent and camping gear, doesn’t everyone travel this way? Six days in and 4000 kms later we meet a wonderful  couple in the camp kitchen at Westiona.  Our new camp friends found an advert for a near new Caretta Teardrop camper for sale, after hours of chatting and expressing a need to be in something more solid and safe at night. We retired the tent and brought the teardrop camper trailer the following day. I’m sure the saying ‘ happy wife, happy life’ relates to this.

Trips away in the Teardrop Camper.

We have been away 4 times since buying the camper trailer, traveled 48000 + km’s up and down & across Australia. The teardrop has been on on gravel roads, corrugated roads, sand tracks, beaches, forest tracks and places where there’s no tracks with me doing most of the driving!

We have Free camped at roadside stops, in the bush, on deserted beaches & the occasional caravan park. The teardrop camper handled the outback the heat, flies and in the Snowy Victorian  Alps where the temperature dropped  to freezing. Driving through dust storms and 90 km cross winds, our teardrop camper is amazing.

The Caretta on road camper trailer is built like the a perverbial and is near sound proof as well. Warm when its cold and has enough ventilation to be comfy when its hot.

We have a 2018 Pajero sport GLX, there is no need for any special  caravan hitch or brakes. We drove between 7am & 3pm & average a tad over 11 Ltrs /100 kms, cruising at 100km/hr with the Air conditioner on more often than not.

Presently  planning trip number 5! can’t wait to go again.
